La Casa Gelato

Welcome to another Food Sunday post.  Before I get started, I would like to wish all the mothers out there a Happy Mother’s Day.  I hope all of you had a wonderful day filled with joy, laughter and lots of food.   Today we said goodbye to cloudy and muggy days and welcomed the warm bright sunshine – there was not a cloud in the sky.  It was a perfect day to share a frozen treat or two with your mommy.

I did not get to share a frozen treat with my mom OR little one today.  BUT, I did take my little one out for gelato the other week (she can’t be having too many treats).  My husband suggested to go to La Casa Gelato and so we did.  I am always down for a good scoop of ice cream or gelato – anything sweet, really.  I have never been to this place so I did not know what to expect.  I was quite overwhelmed when I entered the shop because there were SO MANY flavours to choose from.  They had your typical vanilla, strawberry and chocolate to something very unfamiliar like basil and sumac which you can have in either a waffle cone, wafer cone, dipped cone or a cup.  Fortunately, I was able to try well… almost everything before finally settling down for amaretto and cherry.

So many flavours to choose from.

Cone or Cup?

The gelato was a little grainy – it may have been a bad batch since baby M’s was not grainy at all.  But it was very flavourful.  The amaretto flavour comes through with just a tiny hint of cherry from the bits and pieces incorporated into the gelato.  I really love this flavour combination.

Word of advice: make sure to pre-pay before lining up to get your scoop of gelato.   I thought that it was slightly on the pricier side for the amount of gelato;  it was a whopping $5.00+ for one scoop.  Also,  be prepared to eat your ice cream while standing outside or in your car since there is no seating area.

Clearly obsessed with pink walls.

If you are feeling adventurous and trying to settle down your sweet tooth, then this is definitely the place to go.

Would I go back? Yes, but just because baby M loves this place.

What is your favourite gelato/ice cream flavour?

  1. A year ago, we were in Nice, France. They have a gelato store there called Fenocchio that has a ton of flavours. My wife’s favourite was the Chocolat Gingembre (Chocolate Ginger). A few years before, I thought Reglisse sounded interesting. As soon as I tasted it, I knew Reglisse translated to Licorice. It was still delicious. The flavours run deep in all their product. Another store in Lyon made their gelato cones into rose shapes and a third in Paris Maison Carte d’Or, made their gelato into a production with a macaron, fruit compotes, and toppings such as flower petals. All delicious.

If you are interested, I am reposing my Europe trip on the anniversary at

The Nice post is a few back, the Lyon one was dropped today and the Paris one is coming in a couple of days. Always looking for great Gelato.
